BHAKATAPUR, AN ANCIENT WORLD HERITAGE TOWN

The ancient Newar town of Bhakatapur is located in the east part of Kathmandu Valley. Bhakatapur is a World Heritage Protected Site by UNESCO due to its opulent culture, the temples and also the wood, metal and stone handiworks. The architecture of Bhakatapur goes way back to the 17th century and Bhakatapur is the most medieval of the cities in the Kathmandu Valley. The ambience in town as well as the traditional homes, the way of life and its surroundings all speaks of the prehistoric nature of this town. Bhakatapur went through a massive rebuilding process after the 1934 adverse wreckage by the earthquake.

PLACES TO SEE IN BHAKATAPUR

You can get to Bhakatapur from Kathmandu which is 16km away and once you get to Bhakatapur, the best way to experience the town is to walk around it. You can visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Taumadhi Square, Dattatreya Square and Pottery Square. On your tour to Bhakatapur, you can also visit the Peacock Window which is one of Nepal’s notable sights. You can also visit Hanumanghat where you will find a collection of lingams and where there are also Nepal’s largest and riverside cremation ghats.
