THE BOUDHA STUPA NEPAL`S BIGGESST STUPA

The great Boudhanath Stupa is located north-east of Kathmandu and is believed to be the world’s biggest Boudha Stupa. Because it is located just three and a half miles from Kathmandu, Boudhanath Stupa is located in quite a busy metropolis of the capital of Nepal. What makes the Boudhanath Stupa a center of attraction is the fact that it is largest Boudha Stupa in Nepal and also the most sacred Boudha Stupa outside Tibet. The Boudhanath Stupa as far as Tibetan way of life in Kathmandu is concerned is very important and sacred Buddhist events are and festivals are marked on this Stupa. The Tibetan New Year and the Losar festival are all colorfully celebrated at Boudhanath Stupa in some of the largest festivals ever seen in Nepal.

THE BOUDHANATH STUPA AS A WORLD HERITAGE SITE
The Boudhanath Stupa has further gained influence after being declared as a World heritage Site by UNESCO. The Boudhanath Stupa was erected in the 5th century and has been of great importance to Tibetan Buddhists and local Nepalese for purposes of pilgrimage and meditation. There are quite a number of monasteries and nunneries around the Boudhanath Stupa and there is a strong Himalayan culture around the Stupa too because of the presence of Tibetans and Sherpas. Buddhists will be seen performing their daily rituals by walking around the Boudhanath Stupa three times while reciting either loudly or silently the incantation “’Om Mani Padme Hum”

HOW TO GET TO BOUDHANATH STUPA
You can take a taxi from the Kathmandu Airport to Boudhanath Stupa or even from the Themel. Make sure that you inform the taxi driver that you are going to Boudhanath Stupa main gate. Vans and local buses are available too ferrying passengers in the Kathmandu Valley through ring road. Many interesting sites are found around the Boudhanath Stupa and can be viewed on foot.
